What Happens in a Session?

At the initial consultation we discuss your reasons for coming, your present state of health, and your medical history. Everything you share with me is held in the strictest confidence.*

I then invite you to lie fully clothed on the treatment couch and ensure you are comfortable, before guiding you in a short relaxation to help you settle. I then make gentle contact with your feet, and move around the body as appropriate. For example, I may make contact with the base of your spine, head or shoulders, and will let you know what I am going to do before I do it. Because your body functions as a whole, I may focus on areas other than where your symptoms are.

I then help to release physical and/or emotional tension held in your body in a supported and comfortable way. I encourage you to tell me if you experience any discomfort so that I can resolve any issues to the best of my ability. This allows your body to focus on making the changes it needs at the pace and depth appropriate for you. Clients commonly report a general experience of relaxation and well-being, and may feel tingling, pulsing or gentle movements throughout their body.

At the end of the session there is an opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to give and receive feedback.

* I do not discuss client details or case history with anyone except my supervisor, and even then maintain anonymity, never referring to the client’s full name. My supervisor in turn holds this information in the strictest confidentiality.
