Who Can Benefit from Swedish Massage?
Almost anyone can benefit from massage. The positive effects are wide ranging and it is generally suitable for people of all ages and states of health, including during pregnancy (for exceptions, see below)*. I personally feel that regular massage is a really important part of maintaining a vibrant and healthy mental, emotional and physical life.
Massage is an ancient healing art that has been used for thousands of years in many culture across the world. I am continually amazed and inspired by the power and simplicity of massage, and by the huge variation in why clients come to see me. Some people really need soothing, nurturing touch to help them de-stress mentally and emotionally. Some are in pain and want to resolve physical issues such as a bad back, stiff neck or headaches. Others are aware of the wide ranging benefits and are committed to incorporating regular sessions in their routine to support general health and well-being. Many simply want deep relaxation and a pleasurable treat.
Specific benefits of receiving massage can include:
- Relieving aches and pains
- Reducing stress and anxiety
- Increasing well-being
- Encouraging body awareness and grounding
- Supporting and strengthening the immune system
- Lowering blood pressure
- Increasing circulation
- Soothing and calming mind and emotions
- Deep relaxation
However there are some ‘contra-indications’ that are important to observe. For example:
- Heart conditions
- Cancer (unless your GP says it is OK)
- Skin problems
If you are not sure if massage is appropiate for you, just ask me, or consult your GP.
* However I do not offer baby / toddler massage.
